A Great Start to the School Year

What an amazing first day at Clay Lamberton! The energy in our school was incredible as students returned with smiles, curiosity, and excitement for the year ahead. Whether your child is joining us for the first time or returning for another year, we are so glad to have them as part of our learning community.

I shared with students that learning is about more than just getting the right answer—it’s about trying, practicing, and being brave enough to make mistakes along the way. We promised each other to be curious, kind, and courageous learners this year. When we work together, there is nothing we can’t accomplish, and I can already see that this will be a year full of growth and success.

As we begin this new school year, you can support your child’s learning at home by asking them about what they discovered each day, celebrating their effort (not just their answers), and encouraging them to keep trying—even when things feel challenging. Together, we can help every child grow as a learner and make this year truly special.

High Expectations

We believe all students can learn and grow when we set high expectations and give them the support they need. Our teachers will model what these expectations look like, give students clear feedback, and provide extra help when needed. We will celebrate effort and progress so students feel proud of their hard work. Together, families, teachers, and students will make this a year of growth and success.

Our expectations are simple but important:

  • Students should know and be able to explain what they are learning

  • Students are expected to use complete sentences, accurate vocabulary when speaking and writing

  • Students are expected to explain their thinking, show active listening, and respond respectfully in discussion

  • Students will re-do work that does not meet expectations

  • Students own their growth and reflect on progress

Is it Bullying?

Every student deserves to feel safe and respected at school. Sometimes kids have problems with each other, but not every problem is bullying. This chart helps explain the difference between bullying, conflict, and a mean moment so families and students know when to ask an adult for help. Families can use this chart to talk with their children at home about what to do in each situation and how to get help when they need it.

Shoes for Physical Education Class

If you have slightly worn gym shoes that your children outgrow, please consider sending them to school to Mr. Kouba. We like to stock extra shoes for students who forget or outgrow their shoes during the year.

Attendance Monitor

Beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, the Berlin Area School District has introduced a new feature called Attendance Monitor in PowerSchool. This tool enables families to input attendance information directly, making it easier to report absences or tardies without the need to call the school office.

As the chilly winter months arrive, we’re excited to keep our outdoor recess fun going! We’ll continue to enjoy the fresh air unless the "feels like" temperature drops below 5°.

However, since mornings can be a bit brisk, we will pause morning recess when temperatures dip to those levels. Once things warm up a bit and stabilize, we’ll be back outside enjoying our playtime!
