A Message from the Principal
Clay Lamberton is a place where students learn, grow, and look out for one another. Many of our students are showing great kindness each day, and we are proud of their hard work. This month, we are reminding everyone that words and actions matter. Respectful choices help all children feel safe and ready to learn. When someone’s behavior gets in the way of learning, it affects everyone in the room.
The Cougar Way guides us: we work hard, we are kind, and we keep learning. We don’t expect students to be close friends with everyone, yet we do expect them to share space respectfully. Every child has the right to learn without distraction. Families can help by talking at home about treating others with care, listening to directions, and using kind words even during disagreements. Thank you for being our partners as we build a strong and caring learning community for every child.

As the chilly winter months arrive, we’re excited to keep our outdoor recess fun going! We’ll continue to enjoy the fresh air unless the "feels like" temperature drops below 5°.
However, since mornings can be a bit brisk, we will pause morning recess when temperatures dip to those levels. Once things warm up a bit and stabilize, we’ll be back outside enjoying our playtime!

Afterward, they enjoyed some fun recess time together!
It's a blast watching our younger ones interact with high school students. More fun times ahead!

Fire Prevention Week
Clay Lamberton was excited to welcome the Berlin Fire Department to school for Fire Prevention Week!
The firefighters presented a great presentation about fire alarms, the proper way to call 911, and what a firefighter looks like in full gear. Students had the opportunity to explore the fire trucks, and Ms. Sietz even got to take a ride in the lift, bringing plenty of giggles from the students!
A heartfelt thank you to the Berlin Fire Department. We truly appreciate your visit and your dedication to keeping our Berlin community safe.

In October, all board committees met, and the annual meeting and monthly meeting were held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. Items discussed included final budget and tax numbers for 2025 – 2026, staff health assessment utilization, staff compensation feedback sessions, the annual high school class rank waiver, and the new teacher professional development plan. At the monthly meeting, the board also received an update from Principal Pariso on academic and behavioral aspects of Berlin Middle School’s continuous improvement plan.
For the 2025 – 2026 school year, the board adopted a property tax levy of $7,713,338, putting the mill rate at $6.07 per $1,000 of property value. This is a decrease from $6.20 for the 2024 – 2025 school year, and $7.23 for the 2023 – 2024 school year.
In the month ahead, the embargo on the annual district and school report cards will be lifted. The Policy & Instruction Committee will review those evaluations at its November meeting.
As mentioned last month, the board is developing a new quarterly electronic newsletter directed to all residents of BASD. The first newsletter will be released mid-November. Please click on the button below to subscribe. Additionally, in an effort to gather direct feedback from stakeholders of the district, quick pulse surveys will be included in various communications throughout the year. Our first pulse survey is included here, where we ask you about your thoughts on the district’s buildings and grounds. To share your opinion directly with the board, please complete the one-question survey below by Sunday, November 16, 2025. The question states: In your interactions with our school buildings and district property this school year, how would you rate the overall condition and maintenance of the buildings and grounds across our school district?
You can provide your answer here: LINK
