Attendance Monitor

Beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, the Berlin Area School District has introduced a new feature called Attendance Monitor in PowerSchool. At our school, we believe in fostering a safe, orderly, and positive learning atmosphere for everyone. When a student’s behavior doesn't align with these expectations, we will refer to the Code of Conduct to guide our actions.

A productive learning environment includes the following traits:

  • Respect and Kindness: We treat our fellow students, teachers, administrators, and school staff with courtesy and respect. Kindness goes a long way!

  • Responsibility: We take ownership of our actions and their impact on our community.

  • Cooperation: Working together is key! We follow instructions and communicate honestly with those in authority.

  • Appropriate Language: We use language that is respectful and suitable for school.

  • Punctuality: Being in the right place at the right time, ready to learn, is essential for success.

  • Respect for Property: We demonstrate care for everyone’s personal belongings and the school’s property.

  • Equality: We treat everyone equally, regardless of race, color, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, or disability.

Let’s work together to create a fun and engaging learning space for all!

Bussing

If a student's behavior affects the safety or comfort of their classmates, we may need to take some steps to ensure everyone has a great experience, which could include a temporary break from bus services.

As the chilly winter months arrive, we’re excited to keep our outdoor recess fun going! We’ll continue to enjoy the fresh air unless the "feels like" temperature drops below 5°.

However, since mornings can be a bit brisk, we will pause morning recess when temperatures dip to those levels. Once things warm up a bit and stabilize, we’ll be back outside enjoying our playtime!

Attendance Information

More details? CLICK HERE

  • Attendance is a vital life skill that supports your student's journey to graduation and future job success.

  • Did you know that missing just 10% of the school year, which is about 18 days, can significantly impact academic performance?

  • Research shows that children who are frequently absent in kindergarten and 1st grade are less likely to read at grade level by the end of 3rd grade.

  • By 6th grade, missing school is one of three key indicators that a student might drop out of high school.

  • Interestingly, by 9th grade, having regular and high attendance is a stronger predictor of graduation rates than 8th grade test scores!

  • The effects of missing school are similar whether the absences are excused or unexcused.

  • Additionally, absenteeism in the first month of school can signal ongoing attendance challenges throughout the year.

Wellness Policy

  • We love sharing treats! Just a reminder that any treats sent to school should be store-bought and packaged for everyone's safety and enjoyment.

  • Water is the star of the show in our classrooms! Other drinks aren’t allowed, so make sure to keep water bottles handy.

  • While enjoying your meals in the cafeteria, we encourage everyone to choose drinks that are brain-friendly. Let's keep sodas, energy drinks, and high-sugar beverages to a minimum so we can all stay focused and learn our best!
