A Message From the Principal |
We're thrilled to have completed a successful nine weeks at Berlin Middle School! We appreciate the great turnout at parent-teacher conferences. Our students have been working hard towards our school-wide goals of being Responsible, Respectful, and Safe.
Our staff holds high expectations for all students because we know they can achieve great success. We provide feedback on academic skills linked with social-emotional competencies to help prepare them for college and careers. Throughout the quarters, teachers will provide grades based on the following:
• Expressing emotions and needs appropriately and respectfully.
• Working cooperatively and productively in groups.
• Using active listening and clear communication to express thoughts and ideas.
• Employing organizational skills and strategies to focus attention.
• Arriving on time and prepared with necessary materials.
We ask for your support in developing these skills to help build successful young adults. Additionally, if students struggle with behavioral expectations, they may need to participate in restorative conversations, re-teaching sessions, or other activities during detentions. These may occur before or after school or during lunch. We understand this can be inconvenient, but it's essential for students to actively engage in reflection and planning to make better choices.
I'm grateful to serve as the Principal of Berlin Middle School. Our school is filled with wonderful and talented students and staff, supported by great families. As we move through this month of gratitude, I want you to know how thankful I am to work with your children and our staff. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Thank you!
Warm regards,

Our BMS Students Are Cooking Up a Storm!
In the kitchen, our students have been getting creative and making delicious treats. They turned super ripe bananas into banana bread donuts.
They also whipped up roasted chickpeas, overnight oatmeal, and a variety of hummus flavors.
By preparing their own food, students are discovering that homemade dishes can be healthier, with fewer preservatives, artificial flavors, and other additives. It's been a fun and educational experience for everyone!

In October, all board committees met, and the annual meeting and monthly meeting were held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. Items discussed included final budget and tax numbers for 2025 – 2026, staff health assessment utilization, staff compensation feedback sessions, the annual high school class rank waiver, and the new teacher professional development plan. At the monthly meeting, the board also received an update from Principal Pariso on academic and behavioral aspects of Berlin Middle School’s continuous improvement plan.
For the 2025 – 2026 school year, the board adopted a property tax levy of $7,713,338, putting the mill rate at $6.07 per $1,000 of property value. This is a decrease from $6.20 for the 2024 – 2025 school year, and $7.23 for the 2023 – 2024 school year.
In the month ahead, the embargo on the annual district and school report cards will be lifted. The Policy & Instruction Committee will review those evaluations at its November meeting.
As mentioned last month, the board is developing a new quarterly electronic newsletter directed to all residents of BASD. The first newsletter will be released mid-November. Please click on the "Subscribe" button below to receive this new communication. Additionally, in an effort to gather direct feedback from stakeholders of the district, quick pulse surveys will be included in various communications throughout the year. Our first pulse survey is included here, where we ask you about your thoughts on the district’s buildings and grounds. To share your opinion directly with the board, please complete the one-question survey below by Sunday, November 16, 2025. The question states: In your interactions with our school buildings and district property this school year, how would you rate the overall condition and maintenance of the buildings and grounds across our school district?
