A Message From the Principal
Greetings BMS Families,
Happy New Year! I sincerely hope the holidays brought you great happiness and joy. It’s amazing that the end of the semester is already here and we are halfway through the school year. As we begin this new year, think about some of these ideas to help keep your middle schooler on track:
• Get organized. Let’s face it—middle schoolers are not always organized. Have your child use helpful tools to keep track of his schedule and school assignments such as their planner. They can also use a calendar, sticky notes, to-do lists and an assignment notebook. Help your student get into the habit of cleaning out their school folders, notebooks, etc. regularly.
• Set a schedule. By January, many students have abandoned their schoolwork routines, especially after a long break from school! Help your child reestablish a work time, and then make sure he studies at that time every day. It won’t take long for it to become a habit. Additionally, focus on setting a reasonable bedtime so they are getting at least 7 hours of sleep each night.
•Give “mono-tasking” a try. Kids claim they are multitasking when they listen to music, chat with friends and try to do assignments all at the same time. But the truth is that their brains can’t really handle all that activity. Encourage your child to focus on one thing at a time.
• Set a new goal. Would they like to raise their ELA grade? Encourage them to figure out what it will take to reach that goal. When students are clear about the steps they must take to reach a goal, it’s easier to make the choices that will help them achieve it!
We hope that 2025 brings good health and joy to students, families and staff. Please be sure to reach out to us at Berlin Middle School with anything you may need!
Kind regards,
Colleen Pariso
BMS Principal
