October 2025 Newsletter

Greetings BHS Families,

Last month, I shared our three goals for the year. At last week’s school board meeting, each school presented their goals and the action steps to reach them. While many themes overlapped, one area stood out to me as especially important: maintaining high expectations for all.

It’s easy to take visible steps like starting a new program or adjusting schedules. But lasting change requires something deeper—raising expectations and shifting culture. This kind of change is harder to measure, but it’s also the most impactful.

What does maintaining high expectations for all mean? Here are a few examples of what we’re emphasizing:

  • Accountability: Being on time, meeting deadlines, demonstrating appropriate behavior and engagement.

  • Work Quality and Integrity: Taking pride in effort and doing what’s right, even when it goes unnoticed.

  • Growth Mindset: Seeking opportunities to improve, accepting feedback, and approaching challenges positively.

  • Rigor and Perseverance: Taking on hard tasks, overcoming adversity, and not lowering the bar when success takes time.

Instilling these values in our students starts with us as adults modeling them every day. When staff, students, and families all embrace high expectations, we create a culture where every student can thrive.

Together, let’s make this a great October.

High School and 2nd Graders Connect Through Weekly Visits in Education for Parenting Class

Mrs. Daubner's BHS Education for Parenting class will be visiting Mrs. Goettl's 2nd graders every week! Recently, the two groups had their first meetup, and it was amazing!

All the students—both high school and 2nd graders—had a blast getting to know each other. They read books, played cards, put together puzzles, and enjoyed great conversations.

This experience will give the high school students valuable real-life interactions with younger kids, making learning fun for everyone!

A Fun Day at Little Farmer

Mrs. Weiske's class had an exciting adventure at Little Farmer! They learned all about how bees help pollinate plants and why that’s so important for the yummy foods we eat.

The students also discovered the right way to pick an apple from the tree—just remember to twist, twist, twist! After that, they enjoyed a fun hay wagon ride and got to pick their very own pumpkins to take home.

It was a beautiful and educational day for everyone!

It is hard to believe that we are already one month into the new school year and Homecoming festivities are less than a week away. New this year, you will occasionally notice a little section in this school newsletter with a message from the Board of Education of BASD. These communications are part of our board goals for this school year, where we are focusing on communication to all our district’s stakeholders. We hope to keep you as parents updated on recent items from the Board level as well as ask the occasional question to help us gather feedback.

In September, all board committees met, and the monthly board meeting was held on September 24th. Items on the agendas included feedback from new staff members, a K-12 curriculum review cycle, the addition of the district’s capital improvement plan to the website, budget forecasts for this school year and the next several, and the process required if the district were to sell two of its properties. The district’s continuous improvement plan for the 2025-2026 school year, which includes goals for all schools, certain departments and teams, and the board, was also presented at the monthly meeting. Lastly, we approved changes to the superintendent’s contract and formally approved a document detailing the superintendent evaluation process used by the board each year.

As stated above, this new little section is a part of the board’s goals for this school year. In addition to this, the board is also developing a new quarterly electronic newsletter directed to all residents of BASD. This new newsletter will allow us to go more in-depth on many board level topics as well as keep all interested residents more aware of the district’s happenings. We are in the beginning stages of this project, but please be on the lookout for more information and sign-up opportunities to receive the new newsletter in the weeks ahead.
