A Message from the Principal
Greetings BHS Families,
One of my favorite things about fall is that the season lends itself to gratitude and reflection. As a bowhunter, I define a successful hunt as any time I can get out into the woods for a few hours. The world slows down as I take in the sights and sounds of nature. It’s a great opportunity to clear my mind of the stress that comes with the day-to-day grind, take a breath, and simply appreciate life. I often use that time to reflect on my personal and professional goals and think about all the relationships I’m grateful for. The deer are just a bonus for me.
Fall is a season of transition—summer turning to winter. As we finish our first quarter of the school year, we’re transitioning too. The newness of the school year and the excitement of homecoming are behind us, and we’re entering an important stretch academically where we can build momentum before the holiday break. Our fall sports are wrapping up, and winter seasons are about to begin. Anticipation is building for our musical and concerts in the coming weeks.
It’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of daily life. I hope your family can find some time to slow down and “smell the roses”—whether that’s sharing a family meal without the TV on, going for a walk together, doing a puzzle, or playing a board game. Finding that balance helps me in all facets of life, and I think it will for you too.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Good Luck Cards
Every year, the students at Clay Lamberton put in tremendous effort to create the most amazing good luck cards for our football players before homecoming. The "big kids" absolutely loved them! A huge thank you to Mrs. Goettl's class! We appreciate all of you!

Off to Little Farmer
Mrs. Weiske's class had a fun adventure at Little Farmer. They learned all about how bees help pollinate plants and why that’s so important for the foods we eat.
Students also discovered the right way to pick an apple from the tree. After that, they enjoyed a hay wagon ride and got to pick their very own pumpkins to take home. It was a beautiful and educational day for everyone!

Celebrating Inspiration
This year, we celebrated the 10th Annual Inspiration Wall Ceremony at BHS.
Four remarkable individuals were honored by being added to the "Be Proud, Be Inspired" wall adjacent to the BHS Auditorium. The new inductees included Ralph Treder Jr., Daniel R. Krause, Harold "Harry" Kwidzinski, and Hyman Alex Lawent.
This wall stands as a testament to the pride and extraordinary individuals who have lived—and continue to live—in our City of Berlin and have attended our school district. Through the plaques, photographs, and brief narratives, we hope students will pause as they pass by, read about these inspiring journeys, and realize that with hard work and determination, they too can achieve great things in life.

A heartfelt thank you to Melissa (MJ) Johnston, our dedicated Athletic Trainer from ThedaCare Medical Center, and to ThedaCare Orthopedics for their generous funding.

Gearing Up for the Future
Students in Ms. Rost's Introduction to Business class took a big step toward their future by completing their mock interviews! The focus was on crafting resumes, cover letters, and mastering the interview process. The room was filled with professionalism and confidence.
Teachers and staff jumped in to support the effort, supplying materials and thoughtful questions to guide the students. This unit is designed to gear them up for the workforce, giving them invaluable practice as they transition into young adults.
Each student was evaluated and scored, and the results were great! Well done, students!

In October, all board committees met, and the annual meeting and monthly meeting were held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. Items discussed included final budget and tax numbers for 2025 – 2026, staff health assessment utilization, staff compensation feedback sessions, the annual high school class rank waiver, and the new teacher professional development plan. At the monthly meeting, the board also received an update from Principal Pariso on academic and behavioral aspects of Berlin Middle School’s continuous improvement plan.
For the 2025 – 2026 school year, the board adopted a property tax levy of $7,713,338, putting the mill rate at $6.07 per $1,000 of property value. This is a decrease from $6.20 for the 2024 – 2025 school year, and $7.23 for the 2023 – 2024 school year.
In the month ahead, the embargo on the annual district and school report cards will be lifted. The Policy & Instruction Committee will review those evaluations at its November meeting.
As mentioned last month, the board is developing a new quarterly electronic newsletter directed to all residents of BASD. The first newsletter will be released mid-November. Please click on the "Subscribe" button below to receive this new communication. Additionally, in an effort to gather direct feedback from stakeholders of the district, quick pulse surveys will be included in various communications throughout the year. Our first pulse survey is included here, where we ask you about your thoughts on the district’s buildings and grounds. To share your opinion directly with the board, please complete the one-question survey below by Sunday, November 16, 2025. The question states: In your interactions with our school buildings and district property this school year, how would you rate the overall condition and maintenance of the buildings and grounds across our school district?
You can provide your answer here: LINK
