A Message From the Principal

I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday season. With less than two weeks left in our semester, we don’t have a lot of time to adjust back into a routine. Please make sure that you are familiar with the ‘Bridge Day’ procedures that are covered later in this newsletter. On Monday, January 12th, we will be contacting students (and their parents) who are required to be here for Bridge Day (Friday, January 16th). We hope that students use the next two weeks to get their work in and their grades up.

Also coming up at the end of this month will be course registration for the 2026-2027 school year. Students will be given information in a meeting on the morning of Monday, January 26th about course requirements and procedures for registration. Students will then have approximately one week to complete their registration paperwork and bring it back to their homeroom teacher. I strongly encourage you to talk with your child about the courses that they are taking. Are they taking advantage of dual credit and college credit opportunities? Are their classes aligned with their plans after high school? Are they taking courses that are both challenging and of interest to them? Parents play an important role in this process, so please talk with your child and take a look at our course catalog. If you have any questions about course registration, don’t hesitate to contact your child’s counselor.

The next stretch is an important one for academic growth. Let’s work together to make sure students are in attendance as much as possible to capitalize on this stretch. Senior parents, stay on your child about doing their best until the very end. This includes attendance, effort, and attitude. This is the time of year we sometimes see those things start to slip. We aren’t done quite yet! :)

Lastly, I plan to have a ‘virtual’ parent informational check in later this month or early in February. I have not picked a date yet, but when I do I will send out more information. I just want to share some of the things we have been focusing on and allow parents to ask questions of me. Again, more information will come on this.

Let’s make 2026 the best year yet!

As we kick off the last semester of high school, it's time to start planning for graduation! The next six months are packed with important events, so we've created a handy list of key dates to students on track.

Senior Swag: We've included a flyer for some optional 'senior swag' items available through our cap and gown vendor. Remember, your cap, gown, diploma, diploma folder, and tassel are covered and ordered by the school. Everything else is just for fun!

A Quick Reminder: To participate in graduation and receive your diploma, all student fees must be paid. If you have any questions regarding fees, please contact Laura Sobieski at lsobieski@berlin.k12.wi.us.

Fall Academic Awards

The fall Academic Awards were presented to many deserving students in front of the entire student body and their peers.

We hope this new approach inspires and motivates others, while raising awareness about the academic awards overall.

In the spring, we'll host our traditional awards ceremony for students and parents, featuring a complimentary breakfast. We look forward to presenting more awards at this event!

We are incredibly proud of our hardworking students!

Winter Band Concert

The BHS Band Concert was a wonderful performance! Congratulations to all students and thank you all who attended!

Team Bonding

BHS staff celebrated their annual ornament exchange and potluck.

This was a fantastic way to kick off the Christmas season! Laughter filled the room as they shared festive moments and delicious dishes.

Hands-on learning in action!

Engines 1 students rolled up their sleeves, working on real projects—including a Jiffy ice auger and an Arctic Cat snowmobile.

In this class, students learn how engines work by actually fixing them—building skills in maintenance, repair, and problem-solving that prepare them for future careers in automotive and power equipment fields.

Nothing beats learning by doing!

Sewing 1 Hard at Work

Each student in Mrs. Keyes' Sewing 1 class crafted two burp cloths for a service project for benefiting the ThedaCare Medical Center-Berlin Family Birth Center. These burp cloths were gifted to the precious newborns.

Students also machine sewed a pillowcase from three different pieces of fabric. Both projects were fun and meaningful.

Well done, students!

Chilly Days, Warm Hearts

The BHS Education for Parenting class recently teamed up with Mrs. Goettl's second graders for a walk to the park to admire the trees. The older students also lent a helping hand in the elementary classroom.

We're so grateful for the amazing partnership between these two classes!

Later on in December, they teamed up for a fun filled Christmas trivia day! The little ones visited the high school to join their young adult friends. It was a joy to see them whisper answers and enthusiastically raise their hands!

BMS & BMS Holiday Choir Concerts

On Monday, December 8, every student lit up the stage! Great job to all! It was a wonderful performance.

Happy Holidays from Mrs. Weiske's Room

We crafted our lists, checked them twice, and headed to the Appleton Mall for a festive shopping spree for our families. Our students did an amazing job managing their budgets, paying for their gifts, and even their lunches independently!

A big thank you to school board member Beth Cook for joining us and gifting us with fun holiday glasses and necklaces. We also appreciate Ms. Schnyder for helping chaperone our annual event!

It was a day filled with fun and joy for everyone!

Preparing a Holiday Feast

The BHS Key Club, along with Kiwanis Member Catrina Burgess, geared up for the 42nd Annual Kiwanis free Christmas dinner.

This fantastic team rolled up their sleeves to prep some delicious turkey. A big shoutout to BHS Food Service for always being so accommodating and allowing us to use the kitchen space for meal prep and cooking those yummy Christmas fixings!

Congratulations, Dr. Angela Femali!

Berlin High School is excited to celebrate Mrs. Angela Femali on earning her Doctor of Education (EdD) from Edgewood University! Now officially Dr. Femali, she has dedicated 23 years to BHS, sharing her love of English, literacy, and learning with generations of students.

Dr. Femali’s passion for education began early and never stopped. Her doctoral work focused on language and literacy—knowledge she brings directly into her classroom through thoughtful lesson design and teaching strategies. Beyond academics, she hopes her journey shows students that learning doesn’t end after graduation.

We are incredibly proud of Dr. Femali’s achievement and grateful for the dedication, perseverance, and inspiration she brings to our school community every day. Please join us in congratulating her on this outstanding accomplishment!

The Gift of Giving

The BHS Girls Basketball team embraced the holiday spirit this season by adopting two families from the Berlin Boys & Girls Club Adopt a Family program.

With wish lists in hand, they shopped for the perfect gifts and the team wrapped each present, while enjoying pizza together back at school.

Thank you, girls, for shining both on and off the court!

BHS Wrestling Season Starts Strong

The Gift of Giving

The Berlin FFA recently shopped for Angel Tree families. "There's something about helping others that really fills up your cup!" Thank you for your generosity, students. We're proud of you!

Recently, our Food Service students spiced things up by making delicious fajitas!

As part of their dual credit course with MPTC, they applied their ServSafe skills effectively. They washed produce to prevent foodborne illnesses, used separate cutting boards to avoid cross-contamination, and cooked proteins perfectly. This ensured that every bite was safe and delicious!

Well done, students!

Our talented students from Food Service, Food Family & Society, and Practical Living classes, were "Baking Spirits Bright!"

These goodies were shared with our community at Thedacare Berlin, Clay Lamberton Elementary, Berlin Middle School, Berlin Senior Center, Fortifi Bank, Farmers and Merchant Bank, Berlin High School, and Berlin Public Library.

Thank you for spreading kindness (and tasty holiday treats), students!
