A Message From The Principal

Dear BHS Families,

The upcoming two months mark the busiest time of the school year at BHS. In the classroom, we will be engaged in state testing, wrapping up significant assessments such as the sophomore career paper and tech ed projects, preparing for summer school, and, of course, celebrating graduation. Outside the classroom, we have exciting events lined up, including concerts, spring sports, end-of-year awards and banquets, and prom. Our days and nights will be filled with engaging activities, which is wonderful!

A significant portion of our student body participates in at least one extracurricular activity, whether it's in music, art, sports, or clubs. These activities provide immense value, and we are committed to maintaining and enhancing these opportunities despite the financial constraints faced by our district. Involvement in extracurriculars fosters the development and growth of our students in numerous ways.

Skill Building
Engaging in extracurricular activities creates collaborative environments where students can work together with peers. This experience promotes leadership, organizational skills, and improved communication. For those participating in competitive activities, essential lessons about winning, losing, and the importance of hard work are learned. Additionally, understanding one’s role within an organization is a vital skill acquired through these experiences. Balancing school, home, and extracurricular commitments also enhances students' time management and prioritization abilities.

Connection Building
As human beings, we naturally seek connections. Building relationships with individuals who share similar interests is beneficial for mental health. A sense of shared accountability and commitment positively impacts our adolescents' well-being, and often, these connections extend beyond high school.

Confidence Building
In terms of mental health, achieving goals and feeling a sense of belonging boosts confidence and enhances students' approaches to various aspects of life. Overcoming challenges and adversity through these activities prepares students for future obstacles they may face.

Passion/Enjoyment
At its core, involvement in extracurricular activities can simply be enjoyable. For many students, high school is a unique opportunity to engage in these pursuits, often leading them to discover passions they may not have previously recognized. This newfound interest could even inspire them to pursue a related career path.

For all these reasons and more, we will continue to advocate for student involvement in our extracurricular offerings. As parents, your support in encouraging your child to participate is invaluable, as is your appreciation for the advisers who dedicate their time to make these experiences possible. Even if your child is not currently engaged in an activity, I encourage you to take advantage of the upcoming months to witness the amazing things our students are accomplishing through their extracurricular involvement.

Yours,
Bryant

Reminder to Seniors

According to School Board policy, seniors must attend at least 90% of school days during the 4th quarter to be eligible for graduation participation. Excused absences and those related to early graduation do not impact this requirement. This means that seniors cannot have more than 4 unexcused absences starting from April 1 if they wish to participate in graduation.

FFA Student Attends Nationwide FFA Conference in Orlando

The National FFA Organization, with over one million members, recently hosted its first Next Gen Conference of the year in Orlando, Florida, from March 4-8. Our very own BHS junior, Blake Mertens, attended this event thanks to the generous support of the Berlin FFA Alumni.

Next Gen Conferences help FFA members explore career opportunities in agriculture. This year, 75 high school students participated, focusing on careers in plant science through sessions, discussions, and company tours. These conferences are essential for preparing students for over 350 agricultural careers, providing them with vital knowledge and skills for their future.

We extend our gratitude to the Berlin FFA Alumni for supporting Blake in this opportunity. We take great pride in our FFA students and their promising futures in agriculture.
